Numerical Algebra and Computational Geometry

Deputy director of the Nanjing Center for Applied Mathematics, leader of the Computational Geometry and Applications Project Group, tenured chair professor and doctoral supervisor at Taiwan Yang-Ming Chiao Tung University. He served as the head of the Department of Applied Mathematics at Taiwan Yang-Ming Chiao Tung University and the executive director of the Shing-Tung Yau Center. He has long been engaged in research in the fields of large-scale matrix calculation, structure-preserving doubling algorithm, Maxwell equation calculation, optimal control theory and algorithm, 3D computational conformal geometry and its application in medical imaging, theory and application of chaos encryption system, etc., and presided over a number of major pilot research projects in the natural sciences of Taiwan’s science and technology sector and European and American international cooperation projects. He received the Outstanding Research Award from the Taiwan Science and Technology Department in 1995 and 2002, the Academic Award and Lecture Award from the Taiwan Education Department in 2004 and 2007, and the Shiing-Shen Chern Award at the 8th International Congress of Chinese Mathematicians in 2019. Since 2008, he has been on the editorial board of SIAM Matrix Anal. Appl. magazine, and since 2016, he has been the editor-in-chief of Annals Math. Sci. Appl. magazine.
