Abstract:One of the most important questions in the theory of groups is the computation of the K-theory of a group C*-algebra, giving important information about analysis on the group. The Baum-Connes conjecture relates it to certain properties of the torsion subgroups and in general to the structure of projective group representations. In this talk will explain some basic notions of the C*-algebraic quantum groups and explain the corresponding notions of non-commutative torsion and and of twisting twisting quantum groups by cocycles. We will explain the relation to the quantum version of the Baum-Connes conjecture and give some results related to corresponding twisted (quantum) group C*-algebras.
