Algebraic Geometry

Director: Jun Li

Professor Li is a leading researcher in algebraic geometry. In early years, he focused on the study of the moduli spaces of vector bundles on algebraic surfaces, making breakthrough progress in the compactification, reducibility, and general type problems of moduli spaces. Since 1995, he has been engaged in the algebraic geometric aspects of Gromov-Witten (GW) invariants and established the algebraic construction of GW invariants with his collaborators. He also established the degeneration formula of the GW-invariants and proved that a large class of K3 surfaces have infinitely many rational curves, as well as proved the Yamaguchi-Yau conjecture of GW invariants. In 1994, he was invited to give a 45-minute report at the International Congress of Mathematicians. In 2001, he won the Chen Xing Mathematical Prize Gold Medal.
