Strings 2026 to be Hosted in Shanghai by SIMIS

On July 13th, during the opening ceremony of the 2025 International Congress of Basic Science, Nobel Laureate in Physics and Foreign Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the chair of Strings Planning Committee, David Gross, officially announced that the 36th Strings Conference (Strings 2026) will take place in Shanghai, China, from July 6 to 11, 2026. The Shanghai Institute for Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences (SIMIS) will serve as one of the host institutions, presenting a high-caliber academic gathering for global scholars.

This marks the third time the Strings Conference will be held in China (following 2006 and 2016) and its first time in Shanghai. Since its inception in 1988, the Strings Conference has convened annually, bringing together the world’s leading physicists. It stands as the premier international academic event in theoretical physics and a core platform driving the frontiers of string theory, quantum gravity, and related fields, dedicated to pushing the boundaries of human understanding of the universe’s fundamental physical laws.

As the host, SIMIS will uphold the conference’s distinguished tradition, meticulously organizing a rich academic program. This includes plenary talks, invited talks, the signature “Gong Show” session, and poster sessions. These diverse platforms for exchange aim to foster in-depth discussion on the latest groundbreaking advances, cutting-edge ideas, and innovative concepts within the field.

Scholars worldwide specializing in string theory and related disciplines are invited to stay tuned for forthcoming details regarding registration and the full conference schedule. (For more information, visit official website for Strings 2026: strings2026.simis.cn)
