2024 Fall: Introduction to M theory

Lecturer: Andrey Losev and Tomoki Nosaka

Course Description:

  • Supersymmetry;
  • Supergravity;
  • M-theory and its relation to string theories;
  • Low energy effective theories on branes in string/M-theory;
  • AdS/CFT correspondence;
  • Supersymmetric localization.

M-theory is proposed as a quantum theory of gravity in eleven dimension which unifies critical string theories non-perturbatively, although the theory is still not fully understood. The first half of the course is aimed to introduce M-theory and review its relation to the string theories. The second half of the course is aimed to review the recent development to understand M-theory based on the low energy effective theory of M2-branes.
