Zhizhen School of Interdisciplinary Mathematical Sciences Set to Launch Admissions Assessment. The Shanghai Institute for Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences Designated as Examination Site

The inaugural admissions assessment for the Zhizhen School of Interdisciplinary Mathematical Sciences will soon take place across Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong. The Shanghai Institute of Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences has been designated as the Shanghai examination site, partnering with the school to identify exceptional candidates.

The admissions process includes entrance examinations and interviews. The entrance examination covers fundamental knowledge on Mathematics at university level such as Mathematical Analysis, Linear Algebra and Group Theory, as well as Physics at university level. The admission interview covers mathematical ability and English proficiency test. Candidates with exceptional performance may be given conditional offers and should complete a mandatory preparatory study programme. The first cohort of students is set to enrol in the 2025/26 academic year for an eight-year training program (three years of foundational mathematics training, two years of scientific research training, and three years of doctoral training).

Established one year ago with joint support from the Shanghai Municipality, Yangpu District, and Fudan University, SIMIS has already attracted nearly 80 leading global scholars. The institute focuses on advancing both pure and applied mathematics while expanding interdisciplinary research into fields such as biomedical science, AI, big data, environmental studies, physics, chemistry, economics, and finance. By co-hosting the admissions assessment with Zhizhen school, SIMIS aims to strengthen Shanghai’s innovation ecosystem and contribute to the development of mathematics and interdisciplinary sciences.
