Abstract:

We discuss some uniqueness theorems and related issues in the setting of von Neumann factors.  Among other things, this includes
i. the Li—Shen–Shi Weyl—von Neumann theorem for semifinite factors, ii. work by Hadwin—Ma–Shen and Giordano—Kaftal–Ng on double commutant and asymptotic double commutant theorems for certain properly infinite factors, and iii. work by Ng—Wang on proper asymptotic uniqueness for semifinite factors.
