Number Theory Seminar：Exponential Sums Version of Ihara’s Constant

Abstract: In this talk, we focus on the asymptotic properties of exponential sums on curves over finite fields. As an analogy of Ihara’s constant, we introduce exponential sums version Ihara’s constant and the corresponding average version, and give the relationship among the three. In particular, with the result of Garcia-Stichtenoth, it is proved that when the cardinality of a finite field is a square number, the three are equal and all reach the optimal Drinfeld-Vladut bound.
