Abstract:
In this talk, we can give a general criterion for the automorphism group of nonelementary hyperbolic groups to be linear in terms of certain epimorphisms from the hyperbolic group to finite products of finite simple groups of Lie type. Potential applications include the question of nonlinearity of mapping class groups.
About Speaker:
Mark Pengitore is an assitant professor of mathematics at the Institute of Mathematics in the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, Poland. Mark’s research is in group theory and topology. He works on problems in the overlap of group theory and low dimensional topology. He obtained a PhD in Mathematics from Purdue University, held postdoctoral positions at the Ohio State University and the University of Virginia.
