An operator algebras seminar at SIMIS: Quasi-representations and Controlled K-homology

Speaker: Shaocong Xiang (East China Normal University)
Time & Date: 1:00-2:00 pm, April 18th, Friday
Location: Room 1402, SIMIS
Host: Zijing Wang

Abstract: This talk focuses on the theoretical significance of Lemma 6.5 in Rufus Willett’s paper Conditional Representation Stability, *-Homomorphisms, and Eta Invants, examining its pivotal role within the framework of the original work. The discussion aims to advance our understanding of whether quasi-representations of the fundamental group of a closed two-dimensional surface can uniformly approximate to genuine representations, leveraging insights derived from this key lemma.

About the speaker: Shaocong Xiang is a doctoral candidate at East China Normal University, and his supervisor is Professor Hang Wang. His research interest lies in the field of noncommutative geometry. His work has centered on the Baum-Connes conjecture and the equivariant index theorem.
