Abstract: This talk discusses the relationship between the vanishing of winding number invariants and the approximation of genuine representations by quasi-representations for fundamental groups of closed surfaces. We explore why this phenomenon might hold for surface groups (genus ≥2) — potentially tied to low-dimensional topology or analytic constraints — while failing in higher-dimensional settings.
