In this talk, I discuss some ongoing work (joint with Liang Shiyixin) on geometry related to the Hikita conjecture. For $X$ an affine conical symplectic singularity with contracting $T$ action, we provide effective criteria for determining when $X^T \rightarrow X$ is a complete intersection. This is applied to the geometry of affine Grassmannian slices and characters of symmetric Macdonald polynomials.
