We will survey some of the recent works, using tools from dynamic systems, for applications in geometry and topology. We will discuss ideas in the paper of kahn-Markovic resolving the surface subgroup conjecture, Calegari-Marques-Neves and my own works on the topology of surfaces in hyperbolic 3-manifolds using Ratner theorems.
Prof. Xiaolong Han is a Professor at the SIMIS working on the topology of low dimensional manifolds, hyperbolic geometry, dynamical systems, and the interactions between these three topics. In particular, he is an expert on the topology of three dimensional manifolds.
