CDEF Seminar Series No.6: Entangled Trades:  Exploring Quantum Coordination in High Frequency Trading

Speaker: Dawei (David) Ding (SIMIS)

Time: 2025-12-01 14:00-15:00
Location: 910, SIMIS
Zoom Meeting ID: 821 6164 3270 Passcode: SIMIS

摘要:

High frequency trading firms use sophisticated networking and radio waves to coordinate trading activity across exchanges. Can quantum entanglement be used instead to achieve superluminal decision coordination in high-frequency trading? Imagine synchronizing trading decisions between two exchanges in real time, even as correlations between the two stocks shift unpredictably. Join us as David Ding, professor and former quantum researcher at Alibaba Group, breaks down the concept of quantum entanglement, illustrates how it could enhance trading strategies, and explores a practical implementation using entangled photon sources and commercial telecom equipment. This will be a mind-bending, but accessible, look at how quantum technology could reshape the trading landscape. PhD in physics not required!

About Speaker:

Dawei (David) Ding is an associate professor at the Shanghai Institute for Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Sciences (SIMIS) and Fudan University. He obtained his PhD from Stanford University, where he made contributions to feedback-assisted communication over quantum channels and quantum chaos. He then worked as a quantum scientist at Alibaba Quantum Laboratory. His current research focuses on how to use quantum entanglement to carry out superluminal coordination tasks. He also conducts research on how to better use the low-level physics of quantum computing devices for computational tasks.
