2026 International Congress of Basic Science (ICBS 2026) will take place from August 9 to 21 in Huairou Science City, Beijing. As a premier global academic gathering in the field of basic science, the congress is themed “Advancing Basic Science for Humanity.” It will bring together leading scientists from around the world, foster high-level academic exchange, and share cutting-edge scientific knowledge with the broader public, creating a vibrant forum for intellectual dialogue and discovery.
截至目前，已有近20位世界顶级科学家确认出席并作大会报告，其中包括诺贝尔奖、菲尔兹奖、图灵奖、沃尔夫奖、麦克阿瑟奖得主及美国国家科学院、英国皇家学会院士、中国科学院院士等。预计，近千名来自国内外学术组织、高校与科研机构的专家学者和学生将参与此次盛会。会议聚焦数学、物理、工程等基础科学领域的前沿问题，旨在促进各个领域协同发展，推动理论研究与应用技术创新的贯通衔接。
A highlight of this year’s congress is the inaugural presentation of the ICBS Medal, established to recognize scientists worldwide who have achieved groundbreaking and transformative advances in basic science. The medals span three major disciplines—mathematics, physics, and engineering—and are named in honor of nine distinguished scientific pioneers. In mathematics, the medals are named after Emmy Noether, Shiing-Shen Chern, and Andrew Wiles; in physics, after Samuel C. C. Ting, David Gross, and Marie Curie; and in engineering, after Steven Chu, Charles Kuen Kao, and Chien-Shiung Wu. All names have been approved by the scientists themselves or their families. Notably, each discipline includes a medal named after a prominent female scientist. According to the congress chair, Shing-Tung Yau, this reflects the scientific community’s recognition of the vital contributions of women to the advancement of science, and it is anticipated that at least one female scientist in each field will be among the awardees.
此外，大会还将颁发前沿科学奖，聚焦基础科学三大领域40个分支，预计评选120余篇原创性优秀论文，表彰过去五至十年间在国际前沿学术期刊发表的高水平原创性成果。同时，为助力青年科研人才的成长，数学领域还将评选出10篇优秀本科生论文，获奖学生将在会议期间作报告，与顶尖科学家面对面交流。
大会为期13天，预计举办20余场基础科学报告和400余场前沿科学奖获奖者报告，同步设立前沿科学奖获奖者学术成果海报展，覆盖基础科学各分支及交叉学科前沿，全面展示世界范围内近期具有重要影响的学术成果。一系列特色活动也将同步开展：“数学之夜” “物理之夜”“工程之夜”三场高端学术沙龙，将邀请诺贝尔奖级别科学家分享科研历程与学术洞见；多场高端跨界论坛，将汇聚知名企业家与顶尖学者，围绕基础科学与产业融合展开深入对话，助力科研成果转化。
“清华日”特别活动中，多位中外顶尖科学家将走进清华大学，与青年学子分享科研真知、传递科学力量；“科学家面对面”青少年专场活动，将邀请全国优秀高中生、本科生、研究生代表，与顶尖科学家共同探讨科学前沿问题，点燃科学梦想。
大会开幕式、颁奖典礼及欢迎晚宴将在北京雁栖湖国际会展中心举行，学术报告等主要活动则在北京雁栖湖应用数学研究院展开。目前，大会各项筹备工作正在有序推进。
Founded in 2023 by Academician Shing-Tung Yau, the International Congress of Basic Science has been successfully held for three times. The convening of ICBS 2026 represents a concrete step toward strengthening fundamental research and advancing high-level scientific self-reliance. Upholding the principles of openness, inclusiveness, collaboration, and mutual benefit, the congress seeks to foster global scientific dialogue, support Beijing’s development as an international center for scientific innovation, and contribute to the advancement of science and the shared future of humanity.
